Legal Team at Smith Jones

Biography

I have been with Smith Jones since 2001, as a Litigation Executive and currently supervise the Portal Team in their handling of low value personal injury claims. Having specialised in personal injury law for a long time, I have received the accreditation of Senior Litigator from the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers. Acting for clients nationally, I have worked on claims involving:

  • Accidents at work;
  • Bicycle accidents;
  • Defective products;
  • Pedestrian accidents; and
  • Slips, trips and falls.

On top of this role, I have also taken on extra responsibility as the Operations Manager in the Corporate Team, allowing me to effectively liaise with various departments throughout the firm.

I work with the portal team as a mentor and trainer and really enjoy watching our younger team members grow in confidence and ability.

Testimonials/What your colleagues say about you?

“Vanessa is both firm and fair, she definitely knows what she’s talking about. She has a good sense of humour.” – Chris Livesey

“Vanessa is knowledgeable, understanding and genuinely cares.” – Matthew Cooke

Why did you choose to practice personal injury law?

I went into law straight from school and have practised in various different areas. For me, personal injury has tremendous variety and is also very focused on people. I love making a difference in someone’s life. It may not be making a huge amount of money for them, it could be something as getting my client the physio that they need to be able to return to work or their other activities.

What do you most enjoy about working at Smith Jones Solicitors?

It’s the people who make it. All of our staff care strongly about our clients and each other. They all put energy and enthusiasm into everything they do whether it’s fighting for a client or intra company rounders, there’s a lot of heart.

Smith Jones also invests in us by offering us training. They recognise that motivated and well-trained staff are an asset to maintain. You’re never too old to learn here either. I’ve begun studying for my Diploma in Leadership and Management this year.

What do you like to do outside work?

I clock up several thousand miles a year following my kids cricket matches (and another few hundred walking my dog around the pitch). I’m a big fan of George Ezra and like to boost office morale with my enthusiastic renditions of Shotgun.
