Born in Accrington and educated in Blackburn I graduated from Nottingham Trent University in 1985, with an Honours Degree in Law. I trained with a local high street practice where I dealt with all areas of law, such as crime, family, probate and conveyancing. It was in 1990 when I qualified as a solicitor I started to specialise in civil litigation and from 1994 I have practised in claimant personal injury law.
Over 30 years’ experience has seen me partner a firm in the Midlands that dealt predominately with cases involving serious injury. I settled five cases where damages were in excess of £1 million. I joined Smith Jones in 2015. Based out of the Burnley office, I currently oversee the day to day management of the Holiday Sickness department whilst running a caseload of issued cases.
What do my colleagues say about me?
“In addition to dealing with her own busy workload, Lesley always finds the time to offer help and support to me and other colleagues.” – Jake Fielding
“Lesley has been an exemplary role model after I recently joined the Smith Jones team. Her unrivalled knowledge and ability to get a successful outcome even when the odds are stacked against her make her a vital asset to any case.” – Jamie Havill
Why did you choose to practice personal injury law?
The medical side of the personal injury process intrigues me, with everything from medical examinations to arranging treatment for the people who need it. We often liaise with medical treatment providers to get the best treatment possible for our clients.
On top of getting people the best treatment possible, I enjoy the challenge of claiming against the big companies and insurers and actually getting compensation for the people who deserve it.
What do you most enjoy about working at Smith Jones Solicitors?
For me, the most enjoyable thing about working at Smith Jones is the people. There is a real team ethic throughout the firm and the team has a good mix of experience and youth. Our team shows great enthusiasm in what they do, and it’s great to see the tenacity of some of our young lawyers. There is a good mix of youth and experience here at Smith Jones and I take great enjoyment in being able to mentor the next generation of personal injury lawyers.
What do you like to do outside work?
On the weekends, I particularly like spending time with my husband and two children, whether that involves watching football, travelling to mainland Europe or going to the theatre.
Having travelled to many places in Europe, I am frequently asked where my favourite travel destination is. If I were to return anywhere it would be Barcelona, the Spanish people are great, there are good food and drink, and the football’s not too bad either.
Travelling also helps me to indulge my interest in photography, not to mention a distraction from the day to day pressures of balancing my home and work life. I recently undertook a photography class in pursuance of this interest and hope to refine my skills with experience.
